Probably May 29-June 1 | Friday-Monday | 1 hour, 49 minutes | Rated PG |
A shepherd loves reading mysteries to his sheep… and then he dies. Is it muuuuuuurder? Well clearly, or else there probably isn’t a story. Anyhow, with the local constable a complete fool, it’s up to the sheep to solve their shepherd’s murder. Except humans can’t understand them, so they can’t tell the constable or anyone else what they’ve discovered. It’s wacky, it’s fun, it has a spectacular cast (including voice cast): Hugh Jackman, Emma Thompson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsay, Brett Goldstein, and more. It currently has a 95% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes (and doesn’t have a Popcornmeter yet since it hasn’t been released).
“It’s a feel-good movie that’s sure to delight all ages.” -Kristy Puchko, Mashable
“An irrepressibly jolly way to pass a couple of hours of lambing season.” -Philip de Semlyen, Time Out
“It’s a marshmallowy all-age confection, as fluffy as its ovine protagonists” -Robbie Collin, Daily Telegraph (UK)
“The Sheep Detectives evokes the sunny spirit of classics like Babe while teaching important lessons about death and community.” -Tim Grierson, AV Club
“There’s wisdom amid the silliness, as the story gently makes a case for the necessity of grief, mindfulness and mortal awareness… That’s more than you might expect from a film called The Sheep Detectives.” -Guy Lodge, Variety
“As cozy farm animal detective stories go, it simply can’t be bleat.” -William Bibbiani, TheWrap
We’re still working on some details of our schedule, but The Sheep Detective will probably open at The Clyde Friday, May 29, and play Friday, Saturday, Sunday, & Monday at 7:30.
