Our Favorites of 2016

At the start of a new year, the three blood-born Willefords who can speak (the Little One still has a ways to go) get together and talk about their favorite movies from the previous year. Each of us always has at least one movie on our list that makes the other two go “huh?” (usually me in particular). And we always have a couple of movies that make everyone’s list.

This year, everyone had The Big Short, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, and Sing Street on their lists. Blake was the only one with The Music of Strangers, Spotlight, Eye in the Sky, and Where to Invade Next and Lynn was the only one with The Babushkas of Chernobyl, The Confirmation, Maggie’s Plan, Captain Fantastic, and A Man Called Ove on her list. As for me… well, let’s just say that I appreciate sci-fi, fantasy, and comics more than either of my parents do.

Blake’s List: Trumbo, Spotlight, The Big Short, Where to Invade Next, Eye in the Sky, Sing Street, The Hunt for the Wilderpeople, The Music of Strangers, Hell or High Water, and Deadpool.

Lynn’s List: The Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Big Short, Zootopia, Moonlight (she saw it early, so I say she’s cheating to include it this year), Hell or High Water, The Babushkas of Chernobyl, Sully, Arrival, The Confirmation, Midnight Special, Sing Street, Maggie’s Plan, Captain Fantastic, A Man Called Ove, and Bad Mamas (although she specifically called this one out as a guilty pleasure).

Brook’s List: Creed, Trumbo, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Big Short, Zootopia, Deadpool (once Lynn sees this one, it will undoubtedly go into the guilty pleasure category too), The Jungle Book, Sing Street, Captain America: Civil War, Ghostbusters, The Hunter for the Wilderpeople, Kubo and the Two Strings, Sully, Doctor Strange, Arrival, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
