Probably May 22-25 | Friday-Monday | 1 hour, 45 minutes | Rated PG-13 |
There are four lovely stars in this film: Tuscan scenery, Tuscan food, Rege-Jean Page, and Hallie Bailey, and the first two might even be given more longing looks by the camera than the human stars. It’s a pretty paint-by-numbers romantic comedy, but we just don’t get many of these anymore, and it’s refreshing and delightful. Bailey’s Anna hears that the Tuscan manor of her rich near-hookup Matteo is just sitting empty, and decides to go spend some time there. It’s hokey, it’s forced, but it’s the set-up for a ridiculous claim that she is Matteo’s fiancée, some heartwarming bits of found family, and a classic meet-cute with Page’s Michael, Matteo’s way, way hotter cousin. It’s as sunny and sweet as the Tuscan sunshine, and as light and tasty as Tuscan food, and has a 92% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes.

“For an outlandish romance set in a theme-park version of Italy that features more slow-motion shots of food being tossed in the air than an ’80s McDonald’s commercial, it’s actually pretty charming.” -Katie Walsh, Tribune News Service
