Moana

July 24-27 | Friday-Monday | 1 hour, 55 minutes | Rated PG |

action/peril, some scary images, rude humor, and brief thematic elements

You know the story–you loved it ten years ago when it came out in animated form–and you’re probably still singing the songs because they’re just that great. The live-action version doesn’t really add anything new, but then again, it doesn’t have to. Dwayne Johnson and newcomer Catherine Laga’aia do great work, and it’s fun seeing the adventures coming to life. Sure, critics may complain that they didn’t change anything, but when you’ve got something as good as the original, why change it up? Audiences have given it an 89% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. Just the perfect film to bring kids to after an exciting day at the Whidbey Island Fair, so that they can get something familiar and fun at the end of the day.

“This latest “Moana” is truly great family entertainment.” -Soren Andersen, Seattle Times
“It may not deliver anything new, but Maui and Moana are two of Disney’s most appealing characters; this version retells their story with sincerity, humor, and songs that remain among the all-time bangers.” -Nell Minow, RogerEbert.com
“The remake of “Moana” can’t, and shouldn’t, replace the original. But it earns a place alongside it.” -Owen Gleiberman, Variety

Moana comes to The Clyde in live-action living color on Friday, July 24, and plays Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday at 7:30.
