April 18-20 | Saturday, Sunday, & Monday | 1 hour, 36 minutes | Rated PG-13 |
Visionary director Baz Luhrmann brings together previously unseen footage and remastered audio to craft an amazing behind-the-scenes (and on-stage) look at The King. It’s not quite a documentary, and not quite a concert film, bridging the gap and bringing the best of both worlds. Not only are there epic performances from his Vegas residency, but there’s also description of Elvis’s life from Elvis’s lips. It currently has a 97% Tomatometer and a 98% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes, so it’s fair to say that both critics and audiences have fallen under Elvis’s spell once more.
“Forget the biopic imitations, the found concert footage in this music doc soars with 100 essential minutes of The King back on his throne and thrillingly alive on stage and off. I’d call that a must-see.” -Peter Travers, The Travers Take
“This newfound footage, painstakingly restored, forms the fabric of EPiC, which, despite Luhrmann’s penchant for hurtling over the top—or maybe even because of it—manages to feel profoundly intimate.” -Stephanie Zacharek, TIME Magazine
“‘EPiC’ is a work of deep reverence and affection; Luhrmann wants audiences to feel what he feels from Elvis, and it comes bursting through the screen.” -Adam Graham, Detroit News
“a visual spectacle, almost a hallucinatory physical experience. The sheer vibrancy of the restored footage is stunning.” -Katie Walsh, Tribune News Service
“Watching prime Elvis Presley in all Baz Luhrmann’s IMAX-dimensioned glory is not just entertainment, it is a revelation that suggests the unthinkable: The King, as a pure rock ‘n’ roll animal, was actually underrated.” -Brad Wheeler, Globe and Mail
“Until someone invents a time machine, this movie is the only way you will get a chance to experience one of the most electrifying performers of the 20th century at the absolute height of his charisma and musicianship.” -Nell Minow, Movie Mom
“The King isn’t just restored, he’s virtually resurrected in this dazzling production from director Baz Luhrmann.” -Rafer Guzman, Newsday

Will the Elvis movie be a matinee on Sunday?
It’s gotten summery-enough that we don’t have Sunday matinees anymore. All regular shows are at 7:30, including Sunday (although when we can, we’ll still have captions on for the Sunday show). The weather gets too nice for most folks to come out for a matinee, and it’s light enough after the movie for folks to get home.
