Knowing your place

Where do you sit at The Clyde? Turns out there are patrons who will mow you down as they race through the lobby on their way to securing their favorite seat. Cynthia likes to sit right on the aisle about a third of the way back on the right side. Gina sits in the row in front of her, and Gwen in the aisle seat in the last row. Sandy and Jay like aisle seats in the third or fourth row from the back on the left side. Eileen sits next to the wall because she’s short and can see better without someone directly in front of her. Kyle isn’t always first in line, so he has four favorite seats and sits in whichever is empty when he gets there.
We once had two couples who apparently liked the same seats and unfortunately got in the habit of coming on the same nights. Every Thursday I would open the box office to see one of the four, waiting patiently. They started coming earlier and earlier in order to get those prized chairs, and they wanted us to open earlier and earlier to put them out of their misery. Eventually we took each couple aside and brokered a truce.
The best seats at The Clyde depend on what you want and who you are. The best sight lines are from along the wall. Best sound is right in the middle of the theater. If you like it loud, sit next to a speaker. If you like it warmer sit in the balcony or under a heat duct. If you want a wider seat (or have a wider seat), the chairs in the six-chair rows are a little larger. If you’re tall, the best leg room is next to the wall behind one of the posts. If you’re young, the front rows are the most fun.
It’s all up to you.
“Cynthia will mow you down…” I almost literally lived up to that tonight Lynn, as the gentleman in front of me swerved left as I made my focused beeline to my favorite seat.
Thanks for always having a warm place to come to and quirky people to sit by and watch a movie with.
Right side, back of the house, along the wall, so my way-tall mate won’t block anyone’s sight line. You also don’t have to keep standing up to let latecomers into the row, as you do in aisle seats. I’m good with the wall position, as long as it’s far back. Do that in the front rows and the screen is distorted. Left side’s OK if there are no doubles open on the right.
We love the balcony, a little warm but love to fly in space when the film is on.
“Eventually we took each couple aside and brokered a truce.”
Hmmm… There are some folks in Washington DC that could use your help establishing a truce… Whadaya think???
It ain’t me, Babe, No, no, no it ain’t me Babe, it ain’t me your lookin for, Babe. You will never catch this Eileen sitting by the wall. I’d be screamin’. Can’t stand being closed in, You’ll find me near an aisle. Preferably with an open seat on my left and MK on my right.
