The Academy Award nominations are out, and the Academy has taken some great steps forward in recognizing a diverse group of artists. The Shape of Water leads the pack with 13 nominations (including Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Director), while Dunkirk; Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri; Lady Bird; and Get Out are each up for a handful of awards. You can get the full list here.
The Clyde is cleaning up too. Of the 34 English-language feature films nominated, we’ve shown or have booked 22 of them (and another half dozen are on our “want” list). Nearly all of our currently-showing or upcoming movies have been nominated:
Star Wars: The Last Jedi: 4 nominations (Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Original Score, and Best Visual Effects)
Lady Bird: 5 nominations (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Original Screenplay)
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri: 7 nominations (Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor twice, Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Editing, and Best Original Score)
The Greatest Showman: 1 nomination (Best Original Song)
Paddington 2: No nominations, but a very cute bear and a great story.
The Shape of Water: 13 nominations (Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Production Design, Best Original Score, and Best Costume Design)
Wonderful. Such a hometown feel. It’s the only movie theater that I go to.
