John Keister is a very funny man. You know that if you ever watched the beloved sketch comedy “Almost Live” on TV or if you saw him interview his fellow “Almost Live” alum Bob Nelson after our showing of Nebraska in March.
After his visit to The Clyde John told us “I was so impressed by what an attentive and intelligent audience it was.” He thought The Clyde would be the perfect place to test out his new comedy special. So The Keister Monologues: An Evening of Comedy, Commentary and Clips will take place at 10pm on Saturday, June 28th, as part of our monthly Club Clyde summer late-night schedule.
“The Keister Monologues is a project I’ve been working on for a long time,” Keister says. “I want to tell the story of the Northwest where I came of age. It’s an important story for me and one that I’ve never seen told. I grew up in a largely forgotten and sparsely populated Seattle that crawled from the wreckage of the Boeing bust only to find itself plunging into the Amazon basin of the fastest growing city in America. I was there for the whole ride and I’ve got some beautiful and some disturbing snapshots from the road.” The show includes classic comedy bits as well as some never-before-aired clips and behind-the-scenes footage.
John has worked in local and national media for thirty years. He has received ten Emmy awards for writing, performing, and commentary from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. His work has appeared on Comedy Central, PBS, HBO, The Discovery Channel, and the History Channel. A lifelong Seattle Resident, he attended the University of Washington where he was editor of the campus newspaper The Daily. After graduation John joined the staff of The Rocket Magazine. He left The Rocket in 1984 to begin work on “Almost Live”. John lives in the Columbia City neighborhood of Seattle with his partner Mary. They have four children – all boys.
All tickets for The Keister Monologues at Club Clyde are $10 (cash or check only) and can be purchased in advance at The Clyde when we’re open and at Wander on Whidbey on Anthes Street in Langley during the day.
Are the Keister Monologues coming in 2017 or have they passed already. I can’t tell from this post.
This is actually from the 2014 show. Sorry for the confusion.
