The Clyde Theatre has been selected as one of 100 movie theatres nationwide for a one-night rerelease of Steven Spielberg’s theatrical directorial debut: The Sugarland Express.
Goldie Hawn and William Atherton star in this 1974 film about a woman and her husband who go rogue to rescue their child from foster care before he’s taken away forever. The problem is, the husband escaped from prison four months before his release in order to make the trip — and they quickly kidnap a police officer and pick up a caravan of law enforcement following them across Texas. It’s based on a real-life story, although some of it is definitely dramatized. It won Best Screenplay at the 1974 Cannes Film Festival, and less than a year later, Spielberg started work on Jaws.
We have absolutely no idea how The Clyde was chosen for this limited rerelease, but we’re happy to host it, and will be looking to make it a real event, complete with dressed-up hosts, and what glitz and glamor we can manage at the humble Clyde Majestic.
The Sugarland Express will play for just one show, Sunday, December 10 at 7:30pm.
will you be showing the latest Dune (3)??? Thanks Janet
Denis Villeneuve’s third Dune movie hasn’t started filming yet, but no doubt we’ll try to get it when it’s ready. You might be thinking of the streaming series that just released.
Sounds fun – is it Sunday the 15th? Or Tuesday the 10th?
Neither — it was Sunday, December 8th.
