The Last Class

August 5-7 | Tuesday-Thursday | 1 hour, 11 minutes | Rated Unrated |

Robert Reich is an economic and intellectual powerhouse, and that’s his second calling after being an educator. He’s taught 40,000 students over 40 years, been the Secretary of Labor, and worked in four presidential administrations. Now he reflects on his last year of teaching, bringing the audience inside the lecture hall to learn more about him, education, the nation, aging, income inequality, and so much more. But this isn’t just a retrospective on an amazing career or a look at how things are going wrong, it’s also a call to action and an exhortation that there are things which can be done to make the nation and the world a better place. Although Reich is a fiercely partisan figure, this film isn’t. It’s about the man as a teacher, and about teaching students how to think, rather than what to think.

There aren’t many reviews or ratings out for the film, but it certainly sounds good from what we’ve heard.

“All in all, it’s heartening to hear a major figure in American political history talking about the future as if it might actually happen.” -Matt Zoller Seitz, RogerEbert.com
“The Last Class is, in the end, a pleasant and heartfelt tribute. It is a warm and often moving documentary that is impossible to dislike.” -Andy Punter, InSession Film
“Heartfelt, thought-provoking and honest.” -Avi Offer, NYC Movie Guru
“Throughout The Last Class, Robert Reich demonstrates what American education looks like at its best, calling into question why there is so much hand-wringing over political indoctrination on college campuses” -James Kendrick, Q Network Film Desk
“A brisk 71 minutes that is somehow lighthearted and uplifting, despite the sobering subject matter” -Tobias Jeg, Exclaim!

The Last Class will open at The Clyde on Tuesday, August 5, and play Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 7:30.
