The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Probably August 22-25 | Friday-Monday | 1 hour, 54 minutes | Rated PG-13 |

action/violence and some language

Pedro Pascal is in everything this year, and that’s a good thing. Here he’s the responsible father figure in this family of super heroes, along with Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn. The Fantastic Four live in a stylized 1960s-ish version of our world, protecting the people and being Beatles-level stars — and then comes the Silver Surfer, Herald of Galactus, who eats worlds.  There’s great action, but the heart of the movie is the family, the way they play off one another and really feel like they love one another. It currently has an 86% Tomatometer and a 91% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes. We expect to be able to show it August 22-25, but it’s not yet confirmed.

“First, the good news: you can take your seat for this semi-standalone Marvel blockbuster and enjoy the zippy action and affectionate banter of its charismatic cast without the nagging concern that you haven’t seen 17 or so other films first.” -Philip de Semlyen, Time Out
“It’s hard not to walk out of the theater without a happy smile firmly planted on your face.” -Sarah Michelle Fetters, MovieFreak.com
“It’s brisk, brightly comic, and most of all, sincere and earnest (this year’s superhero mode), a combo that works just as well here as it does for Superman in the DC Universe.” -Bob Mondello, NPR
The Fantastic Four: First Steps works on its own terms, it is visually a delight, has three or four jaw dropping moments, some great laughs and compelling performances.” -Martin Robinson, London Evening Standard
“Decades from now, it will still invite us to escape into it, to delight in its larger-than-life characters, its intergalactic battles and its heart-stirring moments of heroism — and, yes, in its benign, winning, blessed goofiness.” -Glen Weldon, NPR
Fantastic Four: First Steps has proper emotional stakes and the actors to convincingly pull them off.” -Wenlei Ma, The Nightly (AU)
“Buoyant, bracing and, most shocking of all, brief, The Fantastic Four: First Steps represents a quantum leap of ship-righting.” -Chris Klimek, Washington Post
“The key to its success is its focus on family and hope.” -G. Allen Johnson, San Francisco Chronicle
First Steps is the movie this family of heroes deserves. It’s heartfelt, action-packed and just plain fun. Fantastic indeed.” -Dominic Baez, Seattle Times

The Fantastic Four: First Steps will probably open at The Clyde on Friday, August 22, and play Friday, Saturday, Sunday, & Monday at 7:30.
