June 13-16 & 20-23 | Friday-Monday twice | 1 hour, 48 minutes | Rated PG |
Blast off into summer break with this adorable live-action version of the family classic. When a lab-grown monster designed to conquer planets escapes and lands in Hawaii, he gets a lesson in family, love, surfing, and Elvis from Lilo and Nani, a slightly-weird-in-a-cute-way six-year-old and her teenage sister trying to live together on their own after the death of their parents. Of course, there’s a pair of aliens out to recapture the experiment, one who is rather hapless and non-threatening, and the other of whom is the mad scientist who crated Stitch in the first place. It’s a madcap adventure with great themes, great music, some rich characters, and just right to put you in a tropical state of mind. It currently has a 93% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes.
