Becoming Led Zeppelin

March 7-10 | Friday-Monday | 2 hours, 2 minutes | Rated PG-13 |

some drug references and smoking

Before they were iconic rock gods, who were Led Zeppelin? How was their off-beat, off-kilter musical genius received at first? This film focuses on the early years of the band, before they really made it huge, and takes you inside some of their early shows. Alongside the concert footage, you get interviews with the three surviving members to fill in some gaps and talk about what it took to come out on top. And no, The Clyde’s screen may not be full IMAX size, but it’s still more than big enough to bring these rockers to larger-than-life status, and the music doesn’t get much better than the full Dolby treatment you’ll get here. The film has an 84% Tomatometer and a 95% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes.

“A hagiographic look at the group’s beginnings, the movie is as straightforward as it is headbangingly diverting.” -Manolo Dargis, New York Times
“The master-musicianship that the press initially overlooked, and which the tales of bad behaviour obscure, is front and centre here.” -Ludovic Hunter-Tilney, Financial Times
“A rich vein of anecdotes is found in Page and Jones’s busy history as session players, with Jones particularly emerging as an affable raconteur with a juicy portfolio of anecdotes.” -Jonathan Romney, Uncut Magazine (UK)
“the sound is consistently fantastic and the energy is electric” -Peter Howell, Toronto Star
“For the duration of this film I was in a forgiving mood, won over by the visceral thrill of the band’s sound.” -Tracey Thorn, New Statesman
“It’s a wonderful, fascinating journey that should be seen in the loudest theater available to you.” -Steven Prokopy, Third Coast Review
“If you’re looking for dirt, it ain’t here. But if you’re looking for thunderous riffs delivered on a giant Dolby sound system, Becoming Led Zeppelin’s got ’em.” -Chris McCoy, Memphis Flyer
“Thankfully, MacMahon’s profile of the band is so seamlessly crafted and engaging that you might not miss the dirty details of the band’s personal lives, instead surrendering to the film’s primary subject: the music.” -Chad Byrnes, LA Weekly/Village Voice

Becoming Led Zeppelin rocks The Clyde starting Friday, March 7, and plays Friday, Saturday, & Monday at 7:30, plus Sunday at 2:00.
