Wicker

Probably November 20-23 | Friday-Monday | 1 hour, 45 minutes | Rated R |

sexual content, language, and brief full nudity

Ribald, bawdy, spicy, earthy… whatever you want to call this story of a lonely fisherwoman who asks the local weaver to make her a husband, it’ll probably fit. Olivia Coleman, Alexander Skarsgard, Peter Dinklage, and Elizabeth Debicki star, but it’s Coleman and Skarsgard who really shine, bringing depth and delight to a couple of characters who could easily be… wooden. I don’t want to oversell the bawdiness, however, because there are strong themes about loneliness and the trauma of being an outcast and repeated teasing and verbal abuse. But yeah, she gets it on with a man made out of wicker. Repeatedly and enthusiastically (although the actual nudity is relatively minor). It currently has a 94% Tomatometer and a 92% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes.

“What a tale! Wicker is compelling, funny, sexy, a delight from start to finish and one of my five favorite films of 2026.” -Thelma Adams, AARP Movies for Grownups
“Wicker is a joyously bawdy fairy tale, a cheeky remix of Beauty and the Beast, and a sly satire of social hierarchies, with some poignant themes of mortality. It is wildly unexpected and a ton of fun.” -Nell Minow, Movie Mom
“A feisty feminist fable that thrums and sings to the beat of its own drum, rhythmic and playful.” -Katie Walsh, Tribune News Service
“Wicker is earthily enjoyable stuff. The directors balance the arcane, almost fable-like quality of the material (adapted from a short story by Ursula Wills) against a crisply satirical critique of the patriarchy.” -Wendi Ide, Observer (UK)
“Colman’s touching performance wins viewers over immediately, making us root for her as she revels in her Wicker Husband’s love and then grapples with jealousy, distrust, and doubt seeded by a lifetime of communal abuse.” -Colleen Morrissey, Chicago Reader
“Bouncing all the way to a truly perfect ending, Wicker is funny and freaky and sweetly romantic. It is also relentless in its conviction that the most destabilizing force in a society is a woman who dares to ask for what she wants.” -Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times
“Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson’s ribald fable casts a comedic spell as it leads to a Satisfying finale. You’ll have a good time with this one.” -Randy Myers, San Jose Mercury News
“Fischer and Wilson know that even the most fantastical must feel close and emotionally real. Wicker, thankfully, is as real as it gets.” -Robert Daniels, RogerEbert.com
“Wicker is such a sharp, and timely look at relationships, passed through the lens of a beautiful fable about magic and true love.” -Kristen Lopez, The Film Maven

Wicker will probably rise up at The Clyde on Friday, November 20, and play Friday, Saturday, & Monday at 7:30, plus Sunday at 2:00.

The trailer does have some Not Safe For Work language in it, so please be careful playing it (I couldn’t find one without the couple of F-bombs).
