Jo and Raissa have been friends for years, but Raissa is headed off to college across the Pacific. At her farewell party, they are drawn down into Nakali, a mythical land of memory and forgetfulness. They must race to avoid creatures looking to steal their memories, survive encounters with a were-dog who seems to have decided to befriend them, and get back to the world they know without losing everything they know and love about each other. It’s a lovely, ’90s-tastic blur of neon colors and Filipino folklore with a heart of gold. The film currently has a 95% Tomatometer and a 96% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes.

“It’s uniquely appropriate for a movie built around the importance of memories to be so memorable.” -Tasha Robinson, Polygon
“The discussion of memories is well handled, but what’s best is the relationship of the two heroines, very different in temperament and outlook but appreciating each other. A sweet concluding scene is more magical than even the most fanciful character.” -Nell Minow, Movie Mom

“It’s dazzling. But impressive as that all is, it’s the thoughtfulness of the story, its genuine heart, and the passion for the culture it depicts that makes this film one to remember.” -Karl Quinn, Sydney Morning Herald
