A beautiful documentary that serves as a history, cross-generational connection, and a call to action in defense of our environment, The Way of the Whale follows youth activist Xiye Bastida on her journey from the birthing place of the Pacific gray whale in Baja California, to the northern extent of their migration in Alaska. Along the way, it shares the story of one of the first great activist campaigns on the nascent Internet: saving their birthing lagoon from becoming the site of a Mitsubishi salt plant. There’s even a segment featuring the Puget Sound’s own gray whales!
The Orca Network and their Langley Whale Center present this film as part of the Welcome the Whales Weekend in Langley! All tickets will be $16, and can be purchased ahead of time from their website, or at the door. Come for the Parade on Saturday, then enjoy some time with gray whales, powerful women, and hope for the future with The Way of the Whale. There will be a virtual Q&A with the film’s producer Franco Campos-Lopez Benyunes following the show.
