Probably August 29-Sept 1 | Friday-Monday | 1 hour, 50 minutes | Rated PG |
I’m not going to lie, Freaky Friday is a pretty huge post-college memory for me (Brook). Even if it wasn’t going to be good, I would still want to watch (and show) the sequel. But as things turned out, this one looks to be pretty great too! Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are back and body swapping again — this time with the daughter of Lohan’s character and the daughter’s friend. Once more it’s adults in teen bodies and teens in adult bodies and all the whacky hijinks that ensure. But when you get right down to it, through all the jokes and physical comedy, it’s about heart and family and coming together with empathy and understanding, and that’s a bit of alright too. It currently has a 92% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes. We believe that we’ll be able to show Freakier Friday August 29-September 1, but it hasn’t been confirmed by the distributor yet.
“Freakier Friday feels genuinely restorative, not just for Lohan’s reputation, but for the inner child who once loved movies like this, delighting in silly tropes like food fights, hunks tossing their hair in slow-motion and makeover montages.” -Katie Walsh, Tribune News Service
“It’s a heart-on-its-sleeve ode to strengthening and forging bonds, the power of deep and unconditional love, and the warmth and safety of one’s chosen family, most especially when it’s at its freakiest.” – Maureen Lee Lenker, Entertainment Weekly
“Curtis and Lohan remain a rocking comedic duo who know how to bring down the house.” -Sarah Michelle Fetter, MovieFreak.com
“This old-school confection, smartly reuniting the original cast, delights in every silly scene.” -Tara Brady, Irish Times
“But something a little bolder is in play too. At 66, Curtis treats her own physicality frankly, a sly rebuke to an industry that still sees a woman just being her age as a regrettable medical condition.” -Danny Leigh, Financial Times
“I laughed, I cried, and I immediately planned to add it to a comfort movie rotation.” -India Block, London Evening Standard
“Curtis and Lohan are producers and they know what the fans and newcomers to the story want, including a Pink Slip reunion so rousing that it might make us look forward to a Freakiest Friday someday.” -Nell Minow, Movie Mom
“Freakier Friday offers enough humor, nostalgia, and stellar performances from its returning leads to make it a worthwhile watch, especially if it introduces a new generation to the Freaky Friday formula.” -Yasmine Kandil, Little White Lies
“Freakier Friday is a spirited sequel that honors its past, embraces the chaos of the present, and delivers a delightfully messy message about empathy, family, and the weird joy of walking in someone else’s shoes.” -Linda Marric, HeyUGuys
“Between Lohan’s impressive return to the movies and Curtis’ defiance of the Best Supporting Oscar curse, Freakier Friday represents an all-too-rare opportunity for talented women on both sides of the camera to demonstrate their chops at big-screen comedy.” -Alonso Durande, The Film Verdict
“Freakier Friday, directed by Nisha Ganatra, has defied the odds. It’s charming and genuinely sweet, and it made me both giggle and tear up. That alone is a win.” -Esther Zuckerman, Bloomberg News
Freakier Friday will probably open at The Clyde on Friday, August 29, and play Friday, Saturday, Sunday, & Monday at 7:30.
