Only Occasional Friday Matinees This Winter

For the last couple of years, we’ve been having regular Friday matinees during the winter–from Fall Back to Spring Forward. In looking at the numbers, however, we saw that while a few of the matinees did great (Coco during Winter Break and The Post later on), most of them actually cost more to run than they made us.
With that in mind, we will only be showing a few Friday matinees this winter. We’ll show them over Winter Break (assuming we can get good movies, like we usually can), and we’ll show them whenever we’re already showing a movie that matches the usual matinee audience (which trends older). It will mean that you’ll have to pay closer attention to the website, our weekly emailed schedule, our Facebook posts, our ads in the newspaper, or our phone messages, so that you know when we’ll be having a matinee, but it also means that we’ll be able to keep showing matinees when they should be popular.
Thanks for continuing them at least some of the time. I hope they will also have subtitles!
If we can get the open-caption (subtitled) versions easily, we’ll certainly look into it.
Perhaps I am in the minority, but I would have attended more Friday matinees but for the open-captioned format. I find them awfully distracting. Thanks.
We do have a mix of people who like and dislike the captions. Whenever we do a poll, we have a slight majority in favor of them, but it is very slight. Given the significant number of people interested in the captions, and the availability of non-captioned shows for the rest of the movie’s run, we’ve generally settled on open-caption as the default for Friday matinees (when we have them).
