Molly Ivins was a legend in her own right. A hard-talking, hard-hitting Texas political journalist, she pulled no punches, skewering and roasting those in power on the left and the right. She particularly enjoyed making fun of the Texas state legislature, which she called one of the most corrupt, incompetent, and funniest governing bodies in the nation. This documentary about this amazing woman is well-researched, well-crafted, and just generally well-done. It may not be as funny as Ivins herself, but it’s got enough of her in it that it’s still pretty dang funny.
Raise Hell: The Life and Times of Molly Ivins opens Tuesday, October 15, and plays at 7:30 Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday.
