some sexuality, drug use, brief violence, and language throughout

We finish up our Second Chance Week with the return of Moonlight, now coming back as the Academy Award winner for Best Picture. This powerful story follows Chiron, a young black man struggling with his place in the world, through three different ages. As Chiron grows from adolescence to mid-teenage years to becoming a young man, he tries to come to terms with not just being a young black man with a single mother in a crime-ridden area of Miami, but being a young gay black man with a single mother in a crime-ridden area of Miami. Mahershala Ali won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor as a drug dealer turned surrogate father figure. It’s a heavy film, but it’s one worthy of being seen by everyone, a window into a world that few of us can imagine living in.

Moonlight returns Tuesday, March 18, and plays Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday at 7:30.
