February 24-28, March 1-6 | Friday through Thursday, plus Friday through Monday | 2 hours, 8 minutes | Rated PG-13 |
An ode to the old-school musicals of the Astaire, Kelly, Garland, and Crosby, La La Land at the same time injects a jazz swing and a modern take into the genre. With 14 Oscar noms (including Best Picture, Best Director, both leads, and two original songs), it’s taken Hollywood by storm, and now we’ve finally managed to get it booked at The Clyde. Emma Stone plays a struggling actress and Ryan Gosling a struggling jazz pianist who happen to cross paths–repeatedly–and begin to fall in love, and they sing and dance their way through the relationship (amazingly, both can actually dance, although Gosling could have used a few more voice lessons). It currently has a 93% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
La La Land opens at the 2:00 (open caption) matinee Friday, February 24, and plays at 2:00 & 7:30 Friday, 4:45 & 7:30 Saturday & Sunday, 7:30 Monday-Thursday, and then 2:00 & 7:30 Friday, 4:45 & 7:30 Saturday & Sunday, and 7:30 Monday again. The early shows on the weekend start at 4:45 due to the length of the movie.
The 4:45 show on the second Sunday, March 5 will be a special Sing-Along Showing, with the captions back to make it easier, and singing loud and proud encouraged.
