Hidden Figures

thematic elements and some language

This story of African-American “computers” working at NASA rocked our minds, hearts, box office, and snack bar last time it showed. Now you have a chance to join the fun if you missed it, or enjoy it again if you’ve already caught it once. It’s a rousing story of triumph against discrimination. A few feel-good moments have been manufactured for Kevin Costner’s head of NASA character, but otherwise the story focuses on three black women being the best at what they do, no matter what other people think of them. The movie was nominated for three Academy Awards (Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress for Octavia Spencer, and Best Adapted Screenplay), and probably should have been nominated for more (Taraji P. Henson just missed out on a Best Actress nom). Rated 92% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and “awesome” by the Willeford family.

Hidden Figures opens Friday, February 17, and plays at 7:30 Friday, 5:00 & 7:30 Saturday & Sunday, and 7:30 Monday.
