thematic elements, language, and some suggestive material

Chris Evans and Octavia Spencer headline this film about an uncle and his precocious prodigy of a niece, but it’s young Mckenna Grace who gives the movie its heart as that spirited young lady. Evans’ Frank is trying to provide the “normal” life that he believes his late sister wanted for her daughter, but his mother has other ideas, wanting to provide the child with the “best” schooling, even if it might not be what’s best for the girl. It’s sweet, it’s sappy, and it’s predictable, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

Gifted opens Tuesday, May 23, and plays Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday at 7:30.
