Boy Erased

December 18, 19 & 20 | Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday | 1 hour, 54 minutes | Rated R |

sexual content including an assault, some language, and brief drug use

Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, and Joel Edgerton (who also wrote and directed the film) headline this story of a Baptist preacher’s son who is outed to his parents and then forced into a gay conversion camp, but it’s the boy himself (played by Academy Award nominee Lucas Hedges) who is the heart and soul of the picture. It’s empathetic, powerful, and well-acted, which is pretty much exactly what you want out of a hard-hitting drama like this one.

Boy Erased opens Tuesday, December 18, and plays at 7:30 Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday.

Local tie trivia: Saunders Jurriaans of the Jurriaans family of Prima Bistro and Saltwater fame, composed the score for Boy Erased. Fingers crossed for nomination for Original Score at the Oscars.
